About Us . . .

About Us . . .

We are . . .

We are employees, business owners, pastors, educators, students, residents, young and old. We are Christians who recognize the importance and command from God to pray for and support the leaders and those with influence for the welfare of our great city. All are welcome to pray. Those who pray or those who are prayed for are invited regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

We pray . . .

We pray for those of 'influence' and 'service' to our great city of La Verne. We pray for God's wisdom and guidance in their decisions and through their work. As Christians, we are called to pray for our leaders and for God's favor in our community. We pray for their protection, their health and their commitment to our community.

Our city is part of a greater community along the beautiful 210 Freeway Corridor. Each week we invite you to pray for a different chosen leader. The best way to be notified and reminded to pray is through our newsletter where you can request HERE. We also post on social media where you can find HERE.

Why we pray . . .

We do not pray for our leaders simply because we are commanded to. Praying for them makes practical sense. Our leaders can affect the conditions we live in and have an impact on our families, our churches, our workplaces, our cities, and our countries. When those in authority are obeying the will of God, it is easier to “live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1Timothy 2:2). When evil men are in authority, our prayers for them are just as needed, as illustrated by William Tyndale's last words as he was being burned at the stake: “Lord, open the King of England's eyes.”

Also, we do not pray for our leaders merely for our own benefit. Leadership can be a tiring task. They are judged harshly and asked to do impossible tasks with the minimum of support and resources. They are expected to please all people at all times. Leaders accept a degree of responsibility to their followers, and at the same time, they often carry the burden of being targets of criticism during times of crisis. We pray for them because we recognize the greatness of their task and because we are grateful for their willingness to lead.

How we choose who is prayed for

This can be a difficult step since there are only 52 weeks in a year. We rely on suggestions (contact us if you want to suggest someone to be prayed for) and God's direction when looking at our city and determining who we need to pray for. When 52 names are chosen, they are not prayed for in order of importance, rather by their position. For example, school leaders are prayed for while in-session, city leaders are prayed for according to their terms in office, etc. That means that the ones prayed for in January are not considered more important than those prayed for in December.
