Dr. Roger Hanawalt - Dental Surgeon and Foundation Chair - Rotary of La Verne

Roger M. Hanawalt, D.D.S. has been lucky enough to live in La Verne for most of his life. Born and raised here, he graduated from Bonita High School in 1972. Moving on to an education at La Verne College (now the University of La Verne) he enjoyed playing intercollegiate football and tennis while pursuing his interests in science. A Bachelor of Arts in Biology was realized in 1976, followed by four years in Atlanta, Georgia, at Emory University School of Dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1980 and immediately returned to La Verne to pursue his career.

Dr. Hanawalt’s proudest moments in La Verne have involved raising his daughters Paige, Peri, and Polly with Mary, his wife of over 35 years. His special joy is spending time with his 3 grandchildren.

Dr. Hanawalt has been blessed and nourished by a large Hanawalt family that has called La Verne home for over 100 years.

Community service and involvement have been key elements of living in La Verne. Dr. Hanawalt has been a member of the Rotary Club of La Verne since 1981 and served as President in 2003/2004. His duties in Rotary Club have included organizing a High School All Star basketball game for more than 28 years, as well as coordinating Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and Teacher Mini-Grants in addition to other community service projects. Dr. Hanawalt has enjoyed many years of coaching his kids on youth sports teams. He has been a lifelong member of the La Verne Church of the Brethren. Involvement with the Los Angeles County Fair Association and other local projects has added to his sense of enjoyment and community pride. Dr. Hanawalt presently serves on the finance committee of the Child Development Center at Fairplex which is a non-profit alliance of the University of La Verne and the Los Angeles County Fair Association. In 2009 he joined the board of Hillcrest Homes, a wonderful retirement community in La Verne. Dr. Hanawalt’s best expression of his pride in La Verne is providing quality dental care since 1980.

This week, God, our prayers are for Roger Hanawalt. Thank You for Roger who is not only a leader in our community, but also a healer. Thank you for his courage, his service, his dedication, and his commitment to the other businesses and organizations in our great city of La Verne. We ask that You encourage and refresh him. We pray your Spirit guides him as he leads others to unity and reconciliation, champions justice, calls us to radical love and service of others, and gives us vision for the future for our community. Give him wisdom to see brokenness in our community and to understand people where they are. Amen.
