Christy Goennier - Unified School District Superintendent
This week, Praying210 has chosen Christy Goennier to support and encourage through our thoughts and prayers.
Christy Goennier
An educator for 22 years, Goennier is the second woman to lead the district, although several have served as female assistant superintendents and district directors. Goennier was born in Tustin and raised primarily in Murietta. She graduated from Perris High School and completed a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a master’s in educational administration at Cal State San Bernardino and a doctorate in organizational leadership at the University of La Verne.
She started teaching physics and Advance Placement biology at Riverside’s North High School in January 1994. She opened Thompson Middle School in Murietta as a charter science teacher in 1996 and stayed there for five years before joining Hemet Unified School District’s administrative team for eight years. She served in Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District as district curriculum director for two years, then moved to the Beaumont district as assessment and accountability director before becoming assistant superintendent of instruction.Goennier said she chose a career in education because she “believes education can transform an individual, a family, an organization and, ultimately, an entire nation.”
Goennier and her husband, Scott, a Realtor and broker, have four children: Nicole, 22, an Army National Guard military policewoman; Matthew, 20, a chaplain’s assistant with the Army Reserves; Ronald, 19, a cybersecurity major at Mt. San Jacinto Community College; and Daniel, 17, a Beaumont High School junior.
Our Prayer
Lord, we ask You to inspire Christy to be Your shining light in this school district by being a role model and mentor for the students in her care. We pray for teachers to have the wisdom, knowledge, and skills to teach students and make their classrooms places where students learn not only knowledge, but also morality and integrity. I pray that teachers and school administrative leaders that Christy comes in contact with would understand that they have a great responsibility as they train our nation’s future leaders. Holy Spirit, fill the lives of the teachers with Your presence, and by their shining examples, I ask You to draw young people to a place of peace and understanding.
Amen.
